Kinross Tennis Club is hoping that new and improved club facilities will help see a resurgence in tennis participation throughout Perth and Kinross.

The three courts facility, located adjacent to Kinross Primary School, offers tennis participation to a wide range of participants ranging from five to 73 years old with their most popular membership being those over the age of 50, who are looking to either get into or rekindle their love for the sport later in life.

Unfortunately in recent years the popularity of the sport in the area has diminished, especially amongst girls. This is a point Club Coach Siobhan MacLeod is keen to put right who when asked about the importance of tennis participation throughout Scotland as a whole commented:

“Very! Tennis is in decline like most sports in the UK due to our busy lifestyles and the amount of choice we have in which sport to play or way in which to keep fit. Less women and girls play tennis than men and this has been a particular area of focus for me.”

Ms MacLeod went on to speak of her pride in the new courts and her hopes that the sight of these will help encourage new participants to join:

“They are extremely important. We were long overdue to get new courts. The new surface makes play possible almost all year round. It also looks great and has attracted new players to the club.”

Local tennis much like at national levels has been suspended indefinitely amid the social distancing measures put in place to tackle the spread of the Coronavirus outbreak. But upon its return it is hoped that those in Kinross and the surrounding communities will make use of the terrific new facilities and rekindle their love for this unique sport.
